ENJOY EPICUREAN DELIGHTS AND SUPPORT METHODIST HOME FOR CHILDREN
AT WILMINGTON’S EPICUREAN EVENING
Wilmington, NC — Tickets and sponsorship opportunities are available for Wilmington’s Epicurean Evening, the region’s premier culinary competition to benefit Methodist Home for Children. On Thursday, August 22, 30 top local chefs and epicureans will set up at the Wilmington Convention Center and dish out their specialties in contests for the Copper Kettle Award, Best Taste, People’s Choice and other awards. Information and tickets are at wilmingtonee.com.
“Year after year, I am delighted and amazed at the talents of our Epicurean Evening chefs and the overwhelming enthusiasm of our guests,” says MHC President Bruce Stanley. “The community has truly embraced this event and its greater purpose of serving children and families in crisis. We are thankful for the support and for the chance to talk about our life-changing work at Methodist Home for Children.”
Copper Kettle winners from 2010-2012 — Pine Valley Market, Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse and Hilton Wilmington Riverside — will return this year to make a second run at the grand prize. Other competitors include popular local eateries such as 22 North, Elijah’s, LongHorn Steakhouse, Poor Piggy’s BBQ, Havana’s, Catch; bakeries and specialty food vendors such as Coastal Cupcakes, Uprising Bakery, Apple Annie’s Bake Shop, Rita’s Italian Ice; and beverage vendors such as Coastal Beverage and Duplin Winery.
In addition to a gourmet experience, live and silent auctions will offer guests the opportunity to bid on getaways to the Appalachian Mountains, fishing excursions, a Carolina Panthers home game, Myrtle Beach trip and other local entertainment packages. A David Yurman timepiece valued at $2,400 is the prize in this year’s Reeds Diamond Champagne Toast.
Proceeds from Wilmington’s Epicurean Evening benefit the children and families served by Methodist Home for Children. The program traditionally features a speaker who’s been in MHC care as a child or a parent. This year, the program introduces speakers from MHC’s past, present and future: Methodist Orphanage alumni who grew up on the campus in the 1940s and 1950; sisters whose adoption stories reflect a journey from tragedy to triumph; and Bruce Stanley, with his vision of MHC and its service to children, young people and families for decades to come.
Sponsorship opportunities are available, and guests are also invited to support MHC’s work through 1K FOR 1KID, ensuring the care of one child for a year with a $1,000 donation.
