Vice President JD Vance told a somber but enthusiastic audience at the Arizona memorial service for slain conservative leader Charlie Kirk that Kirk changed history.
Vance told the crowd of tens of thousands — and millions more watching the broadcast — that Kirk did more than build a movement. “He transformed the face of conservatism in our own time. And in doing so, he changed the course of American history to rising generations across this country.”
The vice president said Kirk would be remembered not just for his political beliefs, but also for his faith in Jesus Christ. “But most of all, Charlie brought the truth. That Jesus Christ was the king of kings, and that all truth flowed from this first and most important one.”
Vance expanded on that theme, noting that Kirk understood: “It is better to be persecuted for your faith than to deny the kingship of Christ. It is better to die a young man in this world than to sell your soul for an easy life with no purpose, no risk, no love, and no truth.”
Kirk, said Vance, knew how to capture the attention of people who want to understand the meaning of being an American. “For Charlie, we must remember that he is a hero to the United States of America, and he is a martyr for the Christian faith. May our heavenly Father give us the courage to live as Charlie lived.”
